Hard work, perseverance and dedication pay off, and Melinda Perry is seeing that first hand.

Auto Remarketing magazine recently nominated the AVP Internal Operations for Remarketing Solutions for its annual Women in Remarketing award, recognizing her 15 years at GM Financial.

Beginning her career with the company in 2002, Perry worked in Collections for nine years before joining Remarketing. Over the past six years, she has been on the front line of seeing the department become more positive and team-oriented.

"Not only was I drawn to the excitement of the remarketing industry, but also the culture within our Remarketing Solutions department is unlike any I had ever experienced," Perry said. "It was, and still is, a true team atmosphere. Everyone is busy and everyone works hard."

Perry has found success in understanding that to be a successful leader, you have to invest in the people you lead. This has helped her grow within the company and help GM Financial's efforts in Remarketing to become one of its fastest-growing departments.

"While I have high expectations of my team members, they always know that not only do I care about the success of the business, I care about helping them reach their professional goals," Perry said. "I invest time in my staff and make it a priority to be available to support them. I am a strong believer that if you put your people first, the rest will take care of itself."

Remarketing has grown during Perry's tenure from around 45 employees to 136 (and growing). And, after years of selling mostly subprime pre-owned and APR repossessions, the department now handles many low-mileage off-lease vehicles, GM Company Car and rentals. Her efforts have also helped spell watershed developments like GMF DealerSource that now allows GM dealers to purchase off-lease, GM Company Car and rentals online.

"Melinda brings an incredible amount of knowledge and experience to her role in Remarketing Solutions and is critical to the success of the department," said Nick Heinz, VP Remarketing Solutions. "She is passionate about developing the teams, processes and products necessary to deliver an exceptional customer experience and is very deserving of this award."

Stacey Petras, AVP Asset Remarketing Support, was also nominated for the award in 2015. The April issue of Auto Remarketing is out now and includes an entry honoring Perry as well as other 2017 Women in Remarketing nominees
